SOCIAL JUSTICE

Helping to build a more just and equitable society

Racism and inequity plague our nation, and we must all be part of dismantling injustice — especially those with privilege and power. Systemic injustice means Black, Indigenous, Latino, and other communities of color face increased rates of poverty, police violence and barriers to voting. Not only does this harm individuals, families and communities, it weakens our country and threatens our democracy.

We’re tackling these challenges head-on by working to improve voting and civic engagement, improving upon the underrepresentation in leadership positions, and fighting racially-motivated voter discrimination. We also prioritize improving access to resources, rethinking the systems to access capital, investing in restorative economics and criminal justice reform. And we’re advancing anti-racism training, because being open to listening, learning and growing is the way forward.

Our Investment Committee has signed The Belonging Pledge, agreeing that “racial equity also belongs in the investment process” and committing “to integrating racial justice into our investment decision making, reviewing portfolio holdings to identify investments that reinforce systemic racism, and establishing targets to divest from issuers that further systemic racism or white supremacy.” We also embrace the restorative economic approach to transforming our economy, reducing the racial wealth gap, and rebuilding opportunity for Black and BIPOC neighborhoods.

We understand that we have not personally experienced these racial injustices, and we will prioritize mobilizing resources into the hands of activists, entrepreneurs, and funders that have been working for racial justice from a place of lived experience.

While the majority of Mighty Arrow’s giving is focused in Colorado, the Intermountain West, and the Bay Area of California, we have opened up our geographic lens for this specific strategy.

Why we love them

Civic engagement isn’t an activity that we only do every four years. Systemic change and movements require constant work year after year. MVP builds consistent support systems so that small regional organizations have platforms in place to activate voting engagement for all elections.

Who they are

Movement Voter Project works to strengthen progressive power at all levels of government by helping donors — big and small — support the best and most promising local community-based organizations in key states, with a focus on youth and communities of color. They support hundreds of incredible organizations that both turn out unlikely voters and organize communities to grow their power and create transformation, from policy to the streets.

Did you know?

In the 2019-2020 cycle, Movement Voter Project supported 636 local groups across 42 states. Their local partners were instrumental in close state-level victories in Arizona, Georgia, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan.

Why we love them

They are a Latino-led advocacy nonprofit creating better ways for Latinos to engage with civic process in the central mountains of Colorado. Serving Summit, Lake, Eagle, Pitkin, and Garfield counties, we wish there were more organizations similar to Voces Unidas to bring their resource state-wide.

Who they are

Voces Unidas de las Montañas envisions a mountain region where Latinas and Latinos are thriving, engaged and leading in all of our communities. They do this by creating opportunities where Latinas and Latinos advocate for themselves, actively participate in all civic institutions and take leadership roles in all decision-making tables.

Did you know?

Voces Unidas is combating voter suppression to ensure that Latinos can exercise their right to vote. They sued the federal government to ensure that the postal service will deliver our mail-in ballots on time. And, they monitor local elections to ensure that First Amendment rights are protected.
