From Building Political Power to Connecting Lands, Waters and Wildlife: Announcing Our Spring Grant Recipients

We’re honored to announce our Spring 2024 grant recipients. The compounding threats of the climate crisis and threats to our democracy weigh heavy on all of us in this beautiful country of ours. But what if instead of a burden, these challenges represent hope and opportunity? We choose to hold tight to our focus on the latter, and it’s with that clear vision, we see the bright spots on the horizon—the Mighty Partners that continue to inspire with boundless creativity, with courage and with a steadfast commitment to building us all a brighter, stronger and more resilient future together.

Amplifier Democracy Photography Fellowship

Photographers have long utilized their lenses to “unveil the raw, unfiltered truths of our world.” Amplifier’s inaugural Amplifier Fellows class is turning its focus on threats to democratic institutions in the United States as democracy and voter rights are under attack in the run-up to the 2024 U.S. Presidential election—aiming to challenge injustice and inform political action. 

Arizona Native Vote

Twenty-two federally recognized tribes live within Arizona’s borders, representing 6% of the state’s population. That’s enough individuals to help determine an election. Arizona Native Vote aims to build permanent Native voting power on Navajo, Hopi, White Mountain Apache and San Carlos Apache Sovereign Lands, including border towns and nearby rural communities through community organizing, education and Indigenous led recruitment.

California Native Vote Project

California is home to the largest number of Native Americans—more than any other state in the country. California Native Vote Project is the first-of-its-kind statewide effort to engage Native American communities across dozens of counties to build political power through an integrated voter engagement strategy, and aims to achieve justice and self-determination for Native American Communities through multigenerational power building, organizing and civic engagement.

Courage California Institute

With a mission to defend and extend economic justice, human rights and corporate and political accountability through public education, strategic research and innovative leadership-development training, Courage California Institute empowers Californians by providing the resources needed to courageously participate in the democratic process and create change for the betterment of their families and communities. 

The Conservation Fund

The Conservation Fund protects valuable, conservable land to benefit America's environmental health and economic vitality. This year, The Conservation Fund has an opportunity to acquire Escalante Ranch, a 4,061- acre ranch within the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Dominguez- Escalante National Conservation Area (NCA) in western Colorado. Protecting Escalante Ranch is a once-in-a generation opportunity to connect land, water and wildlife at a landscape scale, and to address climate change and drought resiliency in the Escalante Creek, Lower Gunnison and Upper Colorado River Basins. 

One Arizona

As a direct response to the growing disenfranchisement of voters and to the attack on the Latinx community in the form of SB 1070, four immigrant rights organizations came together with the goal of registering 12,000 Latino voters. Shortly afterwards, One Arizona was born. Now, One Arizona is made up of 30 organizations active all over Arizona—completely nonpartisan and focused on improving the lives of Arizonans, especially people of color and young people, by building a culture of civic participation.

Georgia Alliance Education Fund

Georgia Alliance is a coalition of donors, funders and organizers focused on the strategic and financial health of Georgia’s progressive movement—across all issues, all of the time. Their Education Fund works to inform and educate through the development of fact-based research, analysis and policy solutions, dispatched through community leaders and the media.

Nevada Alliance

Nevada is one of the most diverse states in the nation, and Nevada Alliance invests in the partners organizing and building trust in communities throughout the state. Nevada Alliance aims to build progressive power and progress in Nevada that has impact far beyond its state borders.

American Rivers

For more than 50 years, American Rivers has been a leader in protecting and restoring rivers throughout the country. American Rivers is committed to restoring and protecting 1 million miles of rivers—from urban waterways to mountain streams, removing 30,000 outdated and harmful dams and safeguarding clean water for everyone in America.

Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance

The Tribal EcoRestoration Alliance is a cross-cultural, multi-organizational collaborative that works to revitalize ecology, economy and culture through Indigenous-led stewardship. Leading collaboration amongst organizations and Tribes to rejuvenate the ecology, economy and culture of their home, TERA is actively working to reframe fire, from a scary and destructive force to a sacred element. 

The Marshall Project

The Marshall Project is a nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization that seeks to create and sustain a sense of national urgency about the U.S. criminal justice system. Through journalism, the organization impacts the system to render it more fair, effective, transparent and humane. Part of that picture includes bringing news of the criminal justice system to incarcerated people themselves.
